Question:

Where can an American eat safely in Bangalore?

I am heading to Bangalore for business in a few weeks. I have traveled internationally before and received my immunizations, etc.

I have been told by very paranoid people to only eat in my hotel and at a handful of other places in Bangalore or "you will regret it". SSeriously, I like good food. I like to have authentic food. I do not eat at Hotels in the US as the restaurants are sub-par (in most cases) catering to lowest common denominator. However, I do not like being regretably ill as my body is not used to certain environmental factors or conditions, etc.

Any suggestions from others who have gone before me on suitable restaurants and good experiences?

Thank you for your assistance.

  1. anywhere.

    eat steamed, grilled food.

    try and avoid fried food.

avoid food which are  HOT-with lot of pepper.

    drink only mineral water.

there are many continental restaurants too.

check out the web - say bangalore online., sify.com etc.,

  2. Good word-paranoid.....actually for americans, world starts and ends in america. You can go to any restaurant and if indians are not falling ill , you will also not.

That is another thing that with time americans have become real sissies and weak stomached that anything foriegn will make them ill.

  3. eat at a hotel wtih a good reputation. or eat a resturant that's a bit pricey and has nice decor. if the place looks nice, then most likeyly their food will be edible. everytime i went to india, (4 times) i got sick. 2nd to last time i went, i had diarrhea (sorry if its too much info) and i had chills and i had a 102 fever in august 2003. but always always, wash your hands and bring never put ur hands in ur mouth, for drinks: as for hot tea or coffeee, no water, your food should always be hot. nothing at all can be room temperature. but my aunts brought somosas from various local tea parlor/market area and i didn't get sick. you can find places, dont give up. but ur best bet since ur giong on a business trip, spend some money and get food from a hotel, cuz its good and healthy. good luck

  4. pretty much anywhere

  5. the reason pple say that is because most food that you get is spicy and since you are not used to it, you may end up with a stomach ache. I myself being an Indian cant really handle spicy food. But I can suggest couple of good restuarants that you can eat and make sure you dont end up contracting anything.

There are couple of really good indian restuarants near M.g.road and tons of places in Koramangala.

Hope you have a good trip.
