My daughter got a gerbil from Petco and died the third day... I've read you should get gerbils from a breeder, anyone knows of one in Colorado Springs?

  1. Here you go:

    http://www.agsgerbils.org/Colorado.php

There is a great gerbil breeder about an hour from you in Superior.

That website also has a lot of great care information. Good for you for going to a breeder instead of going back to a pet shop.

You can also try to find more breeders by joining some of the Gerbil forums and being active in the online community.

  2. If you ever drive up to Denver (which is where I live) OR down to Castle Rock, I would recommend the Dumb Friends League. I adopted 2 gerbils from DFL in Denver, and have had no problems with them. You can go on their website and pull up pics, ages, and names of gerbils available for adoption, they update the list hourly.I have had them 2 yrs now. They even give you a certificate for a free vet exam and if anything does come up, they cover it for you. And it's $5 to adopt, versus $10 or more @ pet store where you don't know the rodents' history. I have a buddy who works @ PetsMart, doesn't recommend rodents from pet stores at all, has seen how they order so many from breeders, they breed so easily they basically just push the baby gerbils out to the stores, before they are ready, without checkups, etc.

  3. Do you have a PETSMART in your area? We get fish there and they live a long time.
