my first job when I got of school was working at Bentley's Sporting Goods Store.  They made the crokinole boards among other items. They are out of business now.

My job was to sand them down.  Well, it was my first job and they didn't tell me how much to sand so you can imagine the result. sawdust everywhere. I hated that job, but I lasted there doing that about 2 weeks.  Then I asked to be transferred to another dept so they gave me the job of cutting the rubber pieces to put on the little spikes.  They all had to be uniform in size. Well, after about a week of that, especially cuz I was working by myself all day long, I said - this is not the job for me. but I was not so polite about it - lol

so I quit and applied for an office job somewhere else. I got in a junior level position in an office and stayed with that company for 35 years.

I do not have fond memories of crokinole because of that. a few years ago, my bf bought a board and we played for awhile, but I kept hurting my fingers trying to knock his pieces out of the way.  BTW, he always won.
