I'd suggest going to an animal home and look around there to adopt one.

You have to meet certain criteria such as the size of your house/apartment, whether you will be working all day and travel etc etc. They are not a profit making organisation but you can make a donation. That's how they survive.

There may be an admin fee (not much) and check in your apartment lease to see conditions on pets.

Newspapers are an alternative check the Süddeutsche Zeitung on Saturdays or local free newspapers that will get shoved into your mailbox on a regular basis.

There are many cats looking for good homes, does it have to be a kitten?
