  1. Like niiro13 said, keep in mind the legal issues. There are federal laws as well as various state laws that govern taping phone calls, especially doing so secretly. If you have a family lawyer, I strongly recommend checking with them about the laws in your state.

For example, it might not even be legal to record phone calls at all in your state without all parties being aware of it. This would include your nanny. If you should need to dismiss and cite a phone conversation as the reason, she might be able to sue you for illegal wiretapping even if it was in your home.

Though I can understand wanting to monitor the phone use, and if you do want to monitor what happens while you are away I strongly advise alerting the nanny to your surveillance when you hire her. That way she is fully aware that she should not know use the home phone to make personal calls, and you might have saved yourself certain legal troubles by doing so. Also keep in mind that there is a great chance your nanny will have a mobile phone which you will be unable to track.

In the end, the best advice I can give is to not worry about taping your home phones. There are a wide variety of legal issues involved, and it is most likely that the nanny will have a cell phone that would be used anyway. If you really want to keep an eye or ear on what is happening, perhaps you should look into general video or audio surveillance for your home. There are inexpensive "spy cams" available (Google it) that will give you a much better idea what the nanny is up to than listening to her phone cals, and it save you a lot of legal grief.

  2. Hi Jennifer,

Amazon sells a wide selection of them.

Go here to see some - http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_ss_gw/002...

I don't know of one you can remotely access.

  3. The best one for that price would be an online one.

RecordMyCalls is $9.95 a month + $.15 per minute...no hardware or software...but it only stores 1GB for the best plan (stupid...it's not even that expensive)...so you might want to check it often and delete what you already listened to.

Remember that it's a federal law against taping...so if there's any big trouble...you can't use that in court.
