  1. I wouldn't do that - just because of what they have been used for before - I don't like the thought of it, maybe I'm being picky but that's just me. (lol)

    I use the plastic dustbins.

  2. Any haulage company or big garage that handles buses and HGV. The plastic barrels they keep battery acid in are ideal and last a life time.

  3. you could use, trash cans... if you have lowes or home depot near by, you could buy from there or order offline

    lowes: http://www.lowes.com/lowes/lkn?action=pr...

    home depot:: http://www.homedepot.com/webapp/wcs/stor...

  4. Try ebay, your local ad paper etc.

    a tip though - dustbins make great feed bins and they are ALOT cheaper!

  5. craigslist.........if you don't see an ad for them place a want ad on craigslist for them.

  6. I picked up about 10 from the local Ag store ...they were barrels that once contained sodium hydroxide, an industrial strength cleaner.

  7. Any Ag store should have them. You will have to ask for them as most keep them stored back in the building or if your TSC has an outdoor, locked yard, they will keep them in there. If you live near dairy's they will also have old ones there.

    Also, if you ask around the ag department at local schools of where they get theirs, I'm sure you can get them for cheap or free. We purchase them to hold feed, powders, oils around the barn, but we have a local trading post that has a whole yard full of them.

  8. Be VERY careful of what you put feed in!  Residue can contaminate feed and your horses will pay the price.

    I get the big PVC barrels that have had olives, pickles, onions or other food stuffs in them.  I pay an average of $10 each.  They have a two piece lid that screws down tight and will keep horses out. (I let my mare play with one for a month just to see if it was 'child safe').

    You will need to air them out or use a lot of baking soda but you can be assured they're not going to poison your horses.

    Trash cans are a staple around our barn.  Clean, safe and you can bungee the lid on.

    Ask around  or try your feed store.

  9. I would Check Craigslist. You can generally find some that were used for water storage!

    If they were used to harbor chemicals or some other type of fluid find out to the extent they were clean and blah blah blah. But I know people try to unload barrels and drums on Craigslist!
