  1. What you need is hydrated lime. The mix is 6 sand 1 cement and 1 lime.


  2. It's Lime mortar - I believe... Try Virginia Lime Works.

    Ben Franklin specified Lime mortar in some of his buildings and I believe he said it was mixed properly when no more water was added than the sweat that falls off a man's brow when mixing it. That's probably why most people use modern mortars and cements which are easier to mix.

    Lime mortar also removes carbon dioxide  from the atmosphere as it dries, unlike modern concrete which adds it to our air. This makes it a "green product"
