  1. Melon pan (bread) is a stable of most Japanese/Asian bakeries, but you won't find them anywhere else except in very large Asian communities.

The bread is just a simple sugar bun, it got its name from the artificial flavoring used to give it a unique smell, which Asians seems to associate with melons, though not everyone will agree.  The bun usually has a square, checkered texture on top too.

If you want some, just look for bakeries in very large Chinese/Japanese communities and you will find them, they are usually the cheapest things in the shop.

  2. There are large asian communities in Vancouver, so I would assume you'd be able to find a good bakery in your local Japantown or Chinatown.  I know Taiwanese bakeries have a bun that's very similar to melon pan, and most Japanese bakeries sell melon pan (as it's usually the most popular baked good being sold).

Imho, it doesn't taste or smell anything remotely near melon, but it a simple, wonderful, tasty bun.  I've eaten more than I'd care to reflect on because it makes me depressed when I think about calories.  XD

  3. u could get it probably from a hong kong style bakery or confectionery shop
