    Don't.

Even if you find a surname in their files, it is completely misleading to make the assumption that it is legitimately RELATED to you (or someone else).  As example.. the legal authority in the UK for heraldry is the College of Arms, which clearly and explicitly states that there is no such thing as family crests. They are issued ONLY to individual persons.  One of the "services" offering what you want.. states on their website.. that this is not true, you are entitled to use them.

So.. do you take the word of an official agency, or someone selling keychains and such at a mall??

Other experienced researchers (several of them here) have used factual records to PROVE their ancestor comes from a particular country. Looking it up online.. it is claimed to be from somewhere else entirely.. and always (of course) "of distinguished lineage".  That should immediately tell you.. what they offer is misleading if not outright fraud.

Several of these firms online... are all franchises from one central company.

Any heritage is explicit to individual persons, and their own ancestry.. not to a surname, no matter what the surname is.

Anyone is free to buy such stuff if they choose.. but it is only ethical that you are warned, to know what you are buying.
