  1. call your county court house they will direct you to the proper services-you take several samples from an area-place in baggie-mail it to them they will give results

  2. http://aggieturf.tamu.edu/diagnostics.ht...

  3. buy a kit and take as many samples as you can from different places.

  4. Might just be the amount of sun they get

You can buy test tubes from any local garden center which will determine NPK and of course your PH they are only about 75 pence each

I specialise so I use A scientist in Jesmond, Newcastle

Who does all the tests for me it costs me £8 for a range of about 20 tests for nutrients in the soil etc

I do the spot method I turn the soil over then take a teaspoonfull from each square yard mix it all up and then 1/4 fill a little cash bag from the bank

I have flicked you the name, address and tele number in email they are good they will tell you what you need on both sides to ensure both are equal

  5. I believe it is the County Extension (sp?) office?  You can also buy a soil testing kit at Wal-Mart, they're not very expensive at all and you'll have your answer a lot quicker.

  6. If one side of the garden is wetter than the other or shadier than the other or more exposed than the other that could make a difference. You should be able to buy a simple pH kit to measure the alkalinity/acidity of the soil.   If one side of the garden has is more alkaline that could certainly affect the growth of certain types of plants. e.g. Azaleas/Rhododendrons
