I am thinking of setting up a very small network in my home. I have managed to get a network hub but unfortunately a manual for this was not available and i was wondering where I could perhaps download one?

A brief description of the hub is as follows:

Has got 8 Ethernet connections on the back

1 x Old "plug in" port

LED Lights corresponding to which connection is connected

I cant find a website to show what the product looks like.

Basically I would like to know if this would work on windows XP or if there are any drivers for this as well etc?

Many thanks

  1. Hubs are typically unmanaged devices, so there is nothing to setup.  Just plug it in, if it's in fact a 10baseT only, then your NICs must be able to negotiate at 10Mbps/half dup. to work properly.   Make sure you have your network cards set to auto-negotiate, this is the default setting for NICs.

  2. Since it is a hub you will not need any drivers One of the ports should be an uplink port usually marked with an x plug your internet router into that and you can use the other ports for your computers.

It is an old hub 10base t so you might have issues negotiatng with 100 or 10/100 cards (nics)

  3. Looks like an old hub. As mentioned, you may have troubles negotiating with network speeds. My advice is to get a more recent one and use that. Any problems, give us a shout
