I live off $40 bucks a week and it's my dream to finish a novel I've been working on for a year and three months. I have an OLD Compaq with Windows 97 with a personal deadline for this novel (before Christmas!). I can't afford to buy an expensive or affordable laptop. No point in putting one on layaway because it defeats the purpose of finishing the novel anytime sooner (if I put away 40 bucks a week for something $600 plus outrageous tax, I can expect the darn thing by March of NEXT year ) :

Isn't there ANYWHERE or ANYWAY out there to download Microsoft Word 6.0 so I can have the luxury of something more than a measely Windows 97 version in which all it does is spellcheck? The 6.0 version is so wonderful : ( HELP!

  1. This ain't Microsoft Word ... but it's darn close and it's free

    http://www.abisource.com/download/

  2. Go to the Public Library and use the computer, its FREE!

  3. Downloading a free/pirated copy of a Microsoft program like that has some serious risks.  There are some peer-to-peer programs out there that may seem to offer a "free" copy of it, but you run the risk of also downloading a virus, or an incomplete copy of Word that will not run properly.

Then you also run the risk of being caught, and hauled off to court. You don't need the legal problems.

Instead, try downloading OpenOffice.  You can get a program that is almost exactly like Word, (and Excel, Powerpoint and others) for free.  I have the entire OpenOffice group of programs on my desktop.

I myself am very low income.  I only get 25 hours a week at my minimum-wage job, despite my begging for more hours.  I am also looking for something better, but in the meantime, like you, I am living on only a few dollars a week.

There are plenty of free, legal programs out there, it just takes a wee bit of effort. Try going to http://www.download.com/

There are hundreds of free or free-trial programs to be found there. And that's just for starters...

  4. I was looking at www.downloads.com, and thought you might need this, couldn't find microsoft word 6 for you but may be i can help another way, go to http://www.flysuite.com/en/start_flyword... and see if that will work for you, you can use this offline or online also, let me know what you think, ok.  Hope you get somewhere with it, if not I will keep looking for you.
