  1. Craigslist is definately the best place to look you could check ebay to tho if you want. Or usually plenty of people get rid of bikes cheap in the classifieds section of you local paper, i dont know were you live but i know theres usually plenty of bike repair shops with guys that sale there bikes there desecntly priced. If you live in southern GA theres alot i bought my 02 yz250 from a shop worker for 1000 its like brand new he only rode it about 10 times and i love it. I put my honda cr125('96) up for sale there for 600

  2. Its going to be an old one and I hope you know how to work on them...If you do then no problem but if you don't save that money and keep saving till you get about 2000 then you can get a newer bike something in the year 2000 or newer...Also don't buy any of those ebay knock offs...There cheep but if you break them you can't get parts to fix them and it is a dirtbike so your gonna break them...

  3. check the craigslist for your area i always see dirt bikes for a couple hundred. http://www.craigslist.com/

  4. if you want an old one just look around the cite

  5. I suggest several places. Even if you don't want to buy through them, check e-Bay for the models you like and see what they go for and in what condition, plus the photos help you identify years and models better elsewhere. Put the word out among friends and acquantances, I have two co-workers who got nice street bikes that way for dirt cheap, and had leads on a couple more. Your local nickel ads are good, as are "Cycle Trader," though it costs. Make sure you think through carefully what and where you will use it, strictly dirt, racing, on/off road, mostly on road. If the last, get the biggest dual-sport you can, you'll need the power on highway, plus dirt bikes aren't comfortable on long street rides, I found out the hard way and am still paying extra on a loan because of having to trade fpr a street bike. Probably what you'll find will be older or smaller, or both. "Cycle World" had a good article a couple of months ago that gave suggestions of good inexpensive bikes for all uses. You might check the magazine racks or their website. Make sure you can still get parts fairly readily, plus a manual for service. If parts aren't available, or it is some limited production model, skip it unless you don't mind having your bike tied up indefinitely waiting for parts if a breakdown happens. Unless you know the bike, stay with close to stock bikes, you don't know if the guy knew what he was doing putting on a big bore kit, unless you know and trust him. Some older models, like from the '70's, were popular enough that you can still get parts, though you may have to do some searchng, like the Honda XL250, which was an excellent bike, I rode a couple, heavy, but really good bikes. Hope that helps in some way.
