My HDTV is quite a bit older and does not have HDMI ports or an ATSC tuner. It can only display 480p and 1080i HD signals, and only through the Component (Y,Pb, Pr) jacks on the TV. I was wondering if there was a converter box for ATSC signals capable of outputting thru Component ports in 480p or preferably 1080i. I am willing to pay a little more for it, i have a coupon. Thanks!

  1. Coupon type converters can only output 480i. It's in the government specs for the coupon program. The best they can have is S-video.

Your "HD ready" TV (if it doesn't have an ATSC tuner it isn't a "HDTV") was made for use with a "HD tuner". Samsung has one (SAMSUNG DTB-H260F ) for about $170 new, Maybe $100 used on e-bay. If you have good reception, you can get older models for  less on e-bay.

As far as the coupon type converters, if your TV is wide screened I'd look at the Zenith DTT901(good zoom function). If it has a 4:3 screen, perhaps the Channel Master one would be a bit better since it has s-video.

  2. I found some here:

  3. Your Coupon CANT'T be used for such HD boxes. The coupon applies only to boxes with s-video or composite video out.

However, you should be able to find set-top boxes with component out.
