I all ready have the Key Code But i don't have the disk.

The only other thing i can think of would be to install the Professional Edition, but I'm using it on one PC all ready and am not sure of the "legal or other complications that might arise" from doing so. Also i need to keep all the data on the hard drive intact.

After my latest update (Aug-14-08) the computer will not start up correctly it will just start to load and then freeze. but i can start it in safe mode with no problem and can find no visible problem with the computer.

  1. Microsoft has a high level of security.  Sure you can go get someone copy of XP and load it on your hard drive.  But you will not be able to get any updates, you will not be secure.  In no time you will get hacked.

You cannot load your XP Pro on another machine.  It is against license rules, plus when you go online they will see that your software does not match the specifics of your system.

I don't know how you go a Key Code, what does that mean?  Go purchase XP Home for 89 bucks at tigerdirect.com

Now about the other question.  Updates should have not affected your system, if you had a legal copy of XP Pro.  Maybe you have a RAM problem.

If you want to save your data, my suggestion is to take that harddrive, put it in another machine as a second drive and then take off the date on a Flash Drive or a CD.  The reformat it and start all over again with a fresh install.

    I hope this helps.
