  1. There are pit bull rescues in every city.  Just google pit bull rescue with your city name and you will find one.  They always have puppies.  I work with one in Chicago and there are usually a couple of litters of puppies at any given time.  Also, you can go onto petfinder.com and pick pit bull and puppy and a lot of the organizations post their available dogs there.  Puppies from rescue usually have an adoption fee of 150-250, which covers all of their shots and their spay/neuter, and then you are helping a good cause.

Going to a backyard breeder is never a good plan because most of them inbreed their dogs and that really messes with the temperment of the dogs.  And a lot of them automatically crop ears which is just plain cruel...so you are just adding to the problem if you go that route.  Plus, if you get a dog from a rescue, if you ever find yourself in a situation where you can't keep your dog, you can always return the dog to the rescue and know that they will find your dog a good home.

Make sure before you get one that your city doesn't have an ordinance banning them and once you do get a puppy, make sure to take him to training as soon as he is old enough.

Also, make sure that you have the financial resources for a puppy.  It's hard to imagine, but between vet visits, food, treats, toys, daycare (I live in downtown Chicago) my pit has cost us over 1000 this year.  That doesn't even include the three emergency vet visits (ear infection, allergic reaction where he almost died and a ripped out dew claw from horsing around too much).  Everyone told me that having a dog was expensive, but to take good care of your dog it takes quite a bit more money than I expected.  Granted, my dog is spoiled rotten, but even if you are conservative with just food and toys and an annual vet visit you are looking at at least 750 a year.

So, just something to think about. Then again, if you adopt from a rescue and you do run into some financial difficulty, sometimes they will be able to help you by setting you up with a vet that offers discounts, or get you discounted dog food and treats, etc.

    Good luck!

  2. If you can't find one from a local shelter you could always go on google and search pit bull breeders in (where-ever you live) and you would probably find one

  3. In our city people post notices on pet supply store bulletin boards.  The going price range is $300-$500 for a puppy.
