I had to put my kitchen table into my living room, and I have kids but don't want to ruin the carpet.

  1. I would use a large painter's drop cloth or a couple of tarps to cover the floor instead. They will be less expensive, washable, and will still protect the carpet from spills. Laminate flooring is not intended for use over carpeting and could work itself apart at the seams from flexing and may also be an unstable surface for the table and chairs. The tarp may not look as nice but you can just roll it up when company comes.

  2.   If this is temporary place to put your table ( you don t say either way) then get  some plastic or a drop cloth to cover carpet. You shouldn t cover carpet w/ a laminate for any long periods or really at all.. You may need to go w/ a area rug w/ the proper backing that prevents it from scooting and bunching up. You can get rug backers as an underlayment anywhere as long as you get the right type..Carpet over carpet.. Don t know if this helps or not but GL

  3. Why not just buy an inexpensive area rug to put there.  It will look nice and protect your carpet.  You can buy the area rugs at any K-mart, Walmart ect. for about $30.  Good Luck
