  1. The hourly rate isn the same as the Royal College of Surgeons Brain Surgeon rate, except that Surgeons do not get double time for sundays.

  2. I have not seen or heard of such a league table published.  The only thing I can suggest is to look on each TOCs website, and look for driver vacancies, which should include salary.

The only other possible source might be drivers union ASLEF, though you might have to write a letter to them.  It would probably help if you can demonstrate that it is for serious research.

If it's any help, Central Trains salary at the moment is 33358.  The biggest earners are probably GNER.

You should remember that salary is only part of the picture; conditions are also very, if not more, important.  EWS, for example, have reasonable pay, but the conditions are so lousy that drivers are leaving in droves.

  3. My ex worked for Arriva in Leeds-He was a driver

He was on 28.5k  per year + overtime at £140 per day.

til he got sacked for being a wifebeating alcoholic !!!

  4. Ask a train driver

  5. gner where the top payers, but now they are bankrupt who knows

  6. http://www.railwayregister.care4free.net...

    scroll to the bottom

  7. That really varies from company to company and experience. I know that after a years driving on south west trains that the wage is just over £35k a year plus regional allowences. The average wage for a train driver with more than a years experience is probably around £35k.

  8. I think Virgin Trains are the highest earners they earn upto £40k a year. One of my mates drives for them he said he's on £37k +3k overtime.

  9. virgin and freigtliner h h are the top payers

  10. There is no website or table for train drivers wages that are made public,  except the train grades unions seem to keep some form of record for their own uses.
