  1. Believe it or not.. death RECORDS can mean many things.. even a tombstone is a record of death.  The social security death index is an index of deaths.

What I think you may mean is a death certificate.  So, starting with the idea that death certificate copies are govt documents, and source of revenue.. the odds are that you will not usually find the (full) death certificate online.  Next.. many states restrict access to these, when they are less than 75 yrs old, or to specific family members. Recent ones CAN be misused for fraud/ id theft.

There are exceptions.  A FEW states have digitized old death certificates and have them online.  WV is one that I can think of, also Arizona.

IF YOU DON'T NEED the certificate.. there are alternate means to find death info, like obits, funeral home records, so forth.

Like almost everything in genealogy.. it is to your benefit to be explicit..  We might be able to find what you need. Overall, I would not expect a free site for all death certificates. It does not exist.

  2. genealogy.com gives you a free trial period of 14-days..its not much time...but it could get you started depending on what you are looking for..

otherwise you might have to search through paper records in libraries and things..
