  1. Try Google. or eBay.

No but seriously, even if you get an old film camera, you will obviously need to buy film. Film costs a whole lot more per minute than video tape. Add the developing costs and the cost to get it transferred to video so you can edit it, and it's not the cheapest way to go. If you want to remake King Kong, though, go for it.

    Here's one:

Here's two 25' reels of film:

8mm runs at 14 feet/minute though, so each reel will last you about two minutes.

    Have fun!

  2. a camera that hand cranks would only be found in a museum, they were obsolete 80 years ago. I think you mean a camera with a spring wound motor, which can be found in a modern Bolex. Such a camera operates at constant frame rate, and does not need battery power. The lack of battery also means no audio is recorded, the film will be silent.  They are practical only for shooting outdoors because they require a LOT of light to get exposures. Indoor shooting requires kilowatts of theatrical lighting, you will need to buy a hugh generator to provide power, or wire additional electrical circuits to handle the load.

Anyway the Bolex 16mm versions are still made in Switzerland and widely exported. They can be rented in most metropolitan communities.

  3. well there are plenty of Bolex cameras on Ebay in both 16mm and 8mm format.  All you need to do is search for the word Bolex.

However, you need to make sure the camera does take certain ASAs.
