Craigslist is a definite... Look under the Category titled FREE or FURNITURE.

If that doesn't work, try a yard sale at 2 pm. If the people want to get rid of it, they would rather give it away than haul it off to Good Will or even worse - move it back in their house.

s***w criagslist... go to yahoo groups and search for freecycle. they are area specific, you request what you want and then go pick it up. I have gotten a piano, violin, pots, pans, coupons, suits, DVDs, etc
