  1. Real training get some.  Yahoo Answers is really starting to go Tango Uniform.

  2. GREAT ANSWER JETMEC!!!!!!!!!

  3. well its "tango" niner----each letter stands for something else--a =alpha==b bravo---c=charlie---d=delta=e -echo===f=foxtrot-g=golf---h =hotel---i -indigo-   etc..watch any old war movie--pretty common basic training stuff.-to avoid confusion when calling in air strikes---you know d sounds like  e over a two way radio-some police departments use it also,to make perfectly clear which letter you are refering when calling in a tag number--p.s. i think the terrorists are way beyond this info by now- world war two relic stuff--we use encrypted codes anyway

  4. You have several options:

    1) You can listen to live ATC at http://www.liveatc.net; after a while, you'll get used to it.  The phraseology is fixed and not very complicated, although controllers (and sometimes pilots) often talk very quickly.

    2) You can buy a book on the subject. One excellent book on communicating with ATC is "Say Again, Please," by Bob Gardner, which is intended to help private pilots get used to radio communications.

    3) You can set up Microsoft Flight Simulator or X-Plane and join VATSIM, and fly online with other pilots and controllers, giving you a chance to actually use ATC phraseology.  Flight Simulator itself also provides simulated ATC, but it's not as complete or realistic as the live controllers on VATSIM.

    4) You can read the FAA's official rules for controllers, Order JO 7710.65S. This is the final authority for ATC in the United States and covers all the phraseology.

The alphabet and numbers are as follows:

Alpha, Bravo, Charlie, Delta, Echo, Foxtrot, Golf, Hotel, India, Juliet, Kilo, Lima, Mike, November, Oscar, Papa, Quebec (pronounced "kay-bek"), Romeo, Sierra, Tango, Uniform, Victor, Whiskey, Zulu

One, Two, Tree, Fow-er, Fife, Six, Seven, Eight, Niner, Zee-ro

  5. Start with the Aeronautical Information Manual (AIM) Pilot and Controller glossary, then I would suggest FAA Order

JO 7110.65S (both available at www.faa.gov.) However, if you were to actually try to talk like that to a real pilot, they would consider you to be a first class dork. It would be much better to speak plain English.

  6. You can learn it only by doing it.  Go start your pilot training.

Yahoo Answers has always been Tango Uniform.  Started out that way.  Bunch of Mike Foxtrots...(!)

  7. Alpha

    Bravo

    Charlie

    Delta

    Echo

    Foxtrot

    Golf

    Hotel

    India

    Juliet

    Kilo

    Lima

    Mike

    November

    Oscar

    Papa

    Quebec

    Romeo

    Sierra

    Tango

    Uniform

    victor

    Whiskey

    X-Ray

    Zulu

then for nine they say niner to avoid confusion with the similar sounding five.

Now also fighter pilots have the brevity code which is very long but can be found at the source below. Hope this helped.

  8. You could just go to www.liveatc.net and listen to live audio feeds. But if you want a more "hands-on" experience, get the Microsoft Flight Simulator (2004 or FSX) and join an online group as an ATC controller (vatsim.com). You get some training and after that you can control the virtual airspace...

  9. Well, there is always wikipedia, as well as an answer above for the 26 letters of the NATO alphabet.

But to really learn how pilots communicate with ATC, you should listen in to a live frequency for example on http://www.liveatc.net/.

  10. in this day and age do you really think that anyone should answer that with anything but "get some real training" and quit trying to get info that a terrorist would ask for.

  11. join the air force.
