I am looking for a Karl or Carl Johann Christian Karsten who married Hulda Wischnowski about 1880. Both are from Germany. All I really know is that the Karsten family came to Australia about 1870. Where can I try and find some information about this family.

  1. try google and look for a website about family histories.

  2. Hi, I've been looking on Ancestry.com, there are tons of Karl or Carl Karstens born in Germany around 1860, and there is not a single match with the name Hulda Wischnowski (worldwide).  I've checked the family trees uploaded by other researchers, and again lots of K/Carl Karstens from Germany, but no Hulda's.

I did learn the KARSTEN Name Meaning and History is

Scandinavian (especially Denmark): variant spelling of Carsten.

    CARSTEN Name Meaning and History:

North German, Dutch, and Scandinavian (chiefly Denmark): from the personal name Carsten, a variant of Christian.

One specific database kept coming up as I was searching K/Carl Karsten:  Mecklenburg-Schwerin Census, 1900 (in German).  It appears there were many K/Carl Karsten's who were living there over the years, perhaps that will be a clue for you in your research.

I did try checking Ancestry.com for any Karstens in Australia, and I got zero results.

One more thought:  you might consider posting a message on this forum:  http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.kars...

I hope that helps, best of luck with your research!
