Thank you all for your responses. I should have been more specific. I'm trying to find out information about prior layoffs, where the company stands in the industry, hiring modes, etc. I know I can piece this information together with company websites, news articles, etc., but I was wondering if there was one comprehensive site that contained this information (fee based or free).

  1. First, what do you want to apply for? What is your background?

If you have determined these, you may search in the internet and advertisements in newspapers. And, of course, you may do it as a "walk-in applicant". Find your way in the city and look for job vacancies in an array of companies in your list. Lastly, you may ask for other's referrals.

Don't forget to market yourself by having a good credential. If you have it, it is easier for you to land a job. Employers will be the one to look for you.

  2. depending on the size of the comapny, Hoovers.com has a lot of information

  3. what kind of information?

    financial? employment policies? job growth?

the employers website if they have one, the department of labor offer some statistics in many states and former and/or current employees are often a good source of information about a potential employer.

    EDIT:

go to your states department of labor website in most states they track this information. if they track it you should be able to gain the insight you need.
