  1. What is the name of the town?  Or your ancestor?

Maybe there is something on ancestry.com.

  2. If you know what county it is in, you can post a question on the county board in Genforum or Ancestry. Write if you'd like to follow that up.

  3. Many of our families lived in what are NOW ghost towns.. or have had the name changed.  They often show up on topo maps, as communities, etc.

The key you need is the county. Normally, this is something you will locate as you go along (ie in census records).  Caution.. it is very possible that you have a county change thing involved. Jones county (for analogy) was the "parent" county in 1832.  In 1843, the voters figured the county was too big, and cut off the western half to form Smith county.  If you are working in records from 1850, you find them in Smith co. But looking for the parents, in 1825.. you need to be alert that no Smith county existed.. even if the family always lived on the exact same land. Info relating to the family can be "filed" in the parent county.

Another alternative.. POST the details here.. the family and names, time frame and possible area/ state.
