  1. Jacquard's tie dye kit is an excellent one, because it contains good Procion MX dyes and soda ash. Other good brands of dye include Tulip, Rainbow Rock, and Dylon. All of these perform so much better than Rit dye, and are so much easier to use, that it's incredible how many people are still making bad tie-dyes with Rit dye that fade out right away.

If you don't have another crafts or hobby store in your area, try a fabric store. They often carry good tie-dye kits and other good dyes.

In the long run, the best thing to do is to order your Procion dyes by mail, from a good dye supplier such as Grateful Dyes, PRO Chemical & Dye, or Dharma Trading Company. You don't have to have a credit card if you can mail in a check or money order. They carry the same excellent dyes in many more colors than you've had access to in your Michael's, and they are more economically priced. Dharma Trading Company also has a huge range of dyeable white cotton clothing, from dresses to bathing suits.
