Question:

Where can i find live bait for my betta?

I love my beta, so instead of just feeding it little balls that float i thought that it would be nice for him to have some live food to catch and eat.

The problem is that my fish store doesn't carry brine shrimp or blood worms.. is there any way i can buy some online and have them shipped, and if so how much does it normally cost. Or, is it worth driving to a store out of town to get some...???

  1. Try finding it in another local petstore near you. I think buying online is fine too.

  2. investigate at a pet store, live food may be there,u could use frozen food.

  3. You can hatch your own mosquito larvae. Just set out a bucket with dechlorinated tap water and within a week or so you will see little red worms swimming around. Just take a net and scoop some out and feed it to your betta. Only feed him 4-5 worms. Betta's will eat ALL the live food that is present, and if you feed him to much he will die.

  4. Try a microworm culture.  You can order one online and they are easy to keep alive.  All you need to feed them is a little oatmeal or cornmeal and a pinch of yeast once a week or so.  They are much easier to grow than hatching out brine shrimp and nearly as nutritious for feeding to fish.  You can also "gutload" your microworms just by adding some crushed flake fish food or vitamins to the worm food.  I feed these to all my fry.  You can buy a live starter culture online for about $5.00.
