  1. CJ Dennis has some great poetry for young children. The Baker, The Postman, The Policeman etc........ are great for teaching and reinforcing "people in the community."

    Great for 2-5's.

  2. Jack and Jill--- they went to get water... do you have a water tower in your community?  You can discuss about how years ago people had to walk to a well and in the country there are still individual wells but in the city there are water towers.

Little Boy Blue: Watching the sheep--- you can incorporate this one very easily into farming---do you have a farm in your community?

    Muffin Man:  Bakery

Old Mother Hubbard- :-)  I like the variation that she went out to get the dog a bone but when she got back he had ordered a pizza by phone...it also have various other verses that could be used to incorporate various places in your community.

This Little Piggy:  Going to the market---is there a market in your area?  What is similar to the market---grocery store.
