i am a regeistered childminder and have just about completed my svq level III in Early care and education. I would like to carry out observations on my children in my care but would like to see some charts that pre-schools use. for example tick charts and free description etc. These will give me some ideas how to change for my setting. Many thanks.

  1. You can go to http://www.springerlink.com/content/1028...

  2. I really wouldnt use tick charts OFSTED dont really like them as it doesnt really tell you much about the child!

I dont know where you can get sample sheets: maybe the PLA< local book shops may have "OBservation and Assessments" handbooks (or look online), try contacting some local pre-schools they may have some you can borrow or copy.

In myp re-school we use mapping (a map showing layout and then coloured lines saying where child went, how long etc), narrative(best one and easier to evaluate), I use printed tables with headings such as date, time, observation, comment and social or language used...they are great for both planned and non planned and looks neater than my chicken scratch writing! Its also good because u can look down the columns for similarities and differences. Good luck.

  3. If you give me your email, I can email you mine I don't mind sharing.

  4. Another thought is for you to contact your local primary school that has a foundation year and ask them what they use - they should be able to help you!

    Good luck!

  5. look on the tes website you can download tons of useful stuff there
