My daughter is entering kindergarten next year but i do not think that the 3 day week is effective. as i have seen the current kindergarten class of 25 kids where there is not a day that goes by without one or more of them in tears or going home. i believe it is because they are not developmentally ready for it but i need some sort of professional back up.

  1. That could be true that they are not developmentally ready for kindergarten.  How old is your daughter?  If she is not 4 already, it may be better for her to go to a daycare centre until she reaches that age.  If she is, there will be an orientation day for all children who are registered for kindergarten to go to the school they will be attending to see what it looks like and gets to see what the other children do there.  This is usually a half day morning session.

The schools that are located in my area have the 3 day week sessions.  It is usually Mondays Wednesdays and alternate Fridays and the other is Tuesdays Thursdays and then the Fridays when the other children are not there.

One important thing you need to understand is why are they crying or going home?  Is it that they were sent home because there was a safety issue with the other children in the room or because of something else that happened?  Was it because they displayed behaviour that was acceptable at home but was deemed unacceptable at school?  Getting the answers to these questions will I am hoping will change your outlook on your question.  It seems to work very well here.

  2. You might try contacting a local chapter of Headstart. (If you have one.)

  3. I am unsure on how to answer your question but I think why not start by taking the notion to your school committee that the teacher can seperate the children into 2 groups; one group of 12 in the morning and the other group of 13 in the afternoon. With this, the teacher should have an Aide to help her with the children and then the kids can be offered a 5 day week. They will have more learning time/social interaction and they will be adequately cared for and supervised with the smaller classes.

Start a petition to move this motion and ask other parents what they think about the way the system is right now. They may have other ideas and be ready and willing to sign their name to a great cause for their children.

Kindergarden is the time and age in which they learn their social development skills and teach them that they can be independant and lesson their seperation-anxiety.

Good luck. A good cause is always one that involves todays children.
