  1. The aurora borealis is also called the northern polar lights (Canada, Alaska, etc.), as it is only visible in the North sky from the Northern Hemisphere. The aurora borealis most often occurs from September to October and from March to April.


  2. the further north you go the better.  I have seen it from Florida, but that was very rare.  normally, it's seen in the northern states and Canada of course, and norm. in the winter months...the fact that it's seen in the winter months doesn't mean that's when it happens btw...that has more to do with the fact that it's dark early in winter, and the skies are more often clear.

    This presumes you are in North America, of course...if you are on the continent, then you'll need to head for Scotland, Sweden, or Finland.
