  1. Best Indian in London is Mint leaf, looks ponsy but it is unbelievably good. Mint leaf is on Haymarket. Thai food not found a really good one yet - closest to the real deal I've found is the Blue Elephant, but way over priced.

  2. It depends if you're looking for something 'fancy', or a local gem.

You will struggle to get truly authentic Thai food in London as it is usually adapted for the Western palate and isn't as spicy etc. However, you can still get very good Thai food. Some to try are:

    Patara (Soho) - http://www.london-eating.co.uk/5931.htm

Addie's Thai Cafe (known to be authentic) - http://www.london-eating.co.uk/525.htm

    Esarn Kheaw - http://www.london-eating.co.uk/437.htm

    Crazy Bear (expensive) - http://www.london-eating.co.uk/4147.htm

As for Indian, check out this list from Squaremeal:

You have to search hard to find local gems, but London's high end Indian restaurants are among the best in the world. I would recommend:

    The Painted Heron - http://www.london-eating.co.uk/2613.htm

    Moti Mahal - http://www.london-eating.co.uk/6243.htm

    Benares - http://www.london-eating.co.uk/3646.htm

    Zaika - http://www.london-eating.co.uk/90.htm

If you're in or near North London, then Meghna Hampstead is well worth a try. Their dishes have great flavour and they do Indian tapas at lunch. It's reasonable too.

Good luck and happy hunting! :)
