  1. You don't need it. Get a firewire port on your computer and transfer video from the DV port (not USB) to the firewire port of the computer. Use MovieMaker for editing.

    USB is used only for transferring stills or maybe for webstreaming (if the camera has that capability - not all do - check the manual).
