  2. BROKEN CHAINS

the diversity of flora and fauna in   rainforrst is the most intense conditions for life that exist becase of

    TIME & HEAT& WATER

there are thousands of different food chains

Rainforrests have a very high canopy ,where the crowns of the trees are .like the red woods in vancouver island .

so there are many levels of bio diversity that can fit in ,like a big box of life ,

the conditions are optimal ,lots of heat & water ,lots of Humidity(day and night)

it is not sunlight, because rain forrests are half shade ,the sun only hitting the tops ,but a lot of heat is created .

and most important of all,it works all year around ,

no winter or autemn to slow things down or stop them .

life goes on day after day ,this is why growth in the tropics is so vigorous ,because it is all the time .

    BIODIVERSITY

    And everything follows everything else

    lots of different plants &Trees

    lots of different bugs ,

every body that eats the bugs ,

    everybody that eats the plants

    and everybodies predators

all rain forrest are individual and there  are many spread all around the equator and others in temporate climates

a food chain begins at the soil micro organisms and worms that build the soil then the plants ,the     insects that polinate, the birds and frogs that eat the insects, the other birds ,snakes rodents ,that eat those frogs and birds ,

the big birds and preditors who eat the rodents etc ,and the panthers ,anacondas ,crocodiles who eat them ,in the end Man the hunter is at the top of the chain .

you can imagine the variety of food chains the complicated connections ,

a rain forrest has millions of species we dont even know what is all in there and are still discovering new species

we do know roughly that of the earth's estimated 10 million species, 300,000 have vanished in the past 50 years. each years, 3,000 to 30,000 species become extinct.

a lot of human activity is speeding that up since we tend to overpower all the other species in one way or another.

some reasons why animals are being wiped out ,in the forrests are:

the hunting of exotic species for the consumer market

only about 10% of the animals caught survive

the hunting of animals for food by settlers

forrest fires ,that have started because of slash and burning of forrest ,to clear the land for farming, had gotten out of control

the loss of Habitat because the conditions have changed ,e.g less humidity because of surrounding farmlands ,or overpumping of rivers for human use(farming and utility)

because of contamination of the waters ,

expanding populations and expanding farming ,that has to keep pace with the expanding populations are very strong forces that encroach upon the rainforest's

clearing them for farming and settlement areas .
