  1. You want to learn Germany??

  2. Go to Wikipedia and search German. U can find a free e-book as well as constantly updated language materials in the same place. All the best....

  3. Assuming you mean the language:

The Goethe Institut has a remote learning program - it's not entirely online and it is not free, but you get paired with an instructor and written work is via email.

There are also some sites where you can hear/read/see German which  I find very useful.  They include Annik Rubens Schlaflos in Muenchen, Tagesschau, Deutsche Welle (the langsam gesprochen version of their newscasts are great for beginners and early intermediate students. They get a bit too langsam for intermediate to advanced students), and die Maus (a kid's site with a lot for a beginner.)

Assuming you want to learn more ABOUT Germany:

Some of the sites I like are the German Embassy (in Washington)Germany.Info, Rick Steve's site (limited) and Lonely Planet's web site.  But every region and town in Germany has it's own web site so there is a great richness.  Check out the Yahoo! Group Budget Travel to Germany  we have many good links for travelers.

  4. Ja, ist es eine gute Frage! (Yeah, that's a great question.)

You can try rosettastone.com. They have been around for a while and I've tried learning a language from them before and the process is really boring.

There are also the other usual suspects who are Berlitz and Pimsleur. In my opinion it's really difficult to learn a language strictly online. What really helps me is learning in a group environment. Maybe a CD would be helpful.

  5. German is a really difficult language, I know, I'm learning it first hand, as an exchange student.  I've had three years of German in school and can just start having REAL conversations.  I would recomend getting a tutor instead or buying books with a CD, because you really need to hear the sound of the words.  Anything by the company Langenscheidt is amazing.  My German teacher here in Germany gave me a book from them called German Grammar in a Nutshell and it does a really good job of explaining everything and it has quizes in it, but it doesnt have any CD's with it, but I'm sure the company also has books that do.  Just make sure you practice orally just as much as you do theoretically, because German really is a difficult language.

    Viel Glueck!  (Good luck)

    Tschuess!  (Bye)
