  1. Go to PetFinder and look up small animal shelters in your area.

You can save a hamsters life after it was abused or neglected. Please don't go to PetCo or Petsmart because 50% of the time the animals will have any sort of illness. I made the mistake of getting a pet at PetCo and after getting two boys as a kid. After a month i soon had little hammy babies. They don't care what gender it is and they only care for the profit.

  2. I live in Canada, and I got my dwarf hamster for 8 $ at petsmart. They do not always have them, but if you have different locations near by, one of them should carry dwarf hamsters.  If they do not have any, you just have to wait and keep cheking back. Lucky for me, I got mine at the first place we looked at. You could also call to see if they have any, with the price of gas. P.s My dwarf hamster from petsmart is 8 mounth old and he is very healthy, he is also very friendly. Some people say pet stores are bad, but in my experiane they are great as long as it is a big company that many people use and trust. You could also look for rescued animals/ shelters.

  3. china, duhhhh!

  4. Most pet stores have them, Chinese Dwarves are usually really nice hamsters with great temperments. I work at Petsmart currently and we usually have them but regularly sell out of them.

You have to check the individual store though - many Petsmarts and Petcos I've seen are horrendous, while the one where I work is pretty tolerable (although I bug my petcare manager about things constantly). As with any pet store, if other animals in the place look really sick or neglected, don't buy even a healthy-looking pet from them.
