If you are from the United States, you could always go to this site that gives away free stuff, which includes microsoft office. The only downside is you have to complete offers. But you can complete the free credit report offer (100% free), then get 1 or 2 friends to do the same offer (100% free) and then you get whatever you want for free.

Give it a shot with OpenOffice.

I did, almost 7 years ago when it was still called StarOffice and never looked back on MS-Office, even when StarOffice split between OpenOffice and StarOffice (its "Pro" little sister...)
