please be prepared for a disappointment.  in most collections, 99 out of 100 stamps are worth no more than 50p.  for British stamps, you can get a booklet "Collect British Stamps", which shows retail prices, although in most cases stamps will sell for less than half, you can see if it is very rare of not.
