Algae material is found in stagnant water.  For marine algae you have to find some rocky clean water seashore.

Algae can be found in almost any body of stagnant water.  Even if you are in the city you can find algae on the wall and sidewalk where air conditioners drain.  Look for decorative water fountains, around leaky faucet handles, in gutters which hold water, holes in sidewalks, and any place that stays wet.

In a residential neighborhood it is easier.  Just look for bird baths, fish ponds, or the same as listed for the city.

You should be able to find algae almost everywhere.  Just think about what stays wet as you are walking along.
