  1. Local 232 of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) is this area's branch of the national union.  The local has an extensive training program for apprentice electricians.  They have three different programs.  One is for residential wiring, another is on commercial and industrial wiring, and a third program focuses in voice, data and video.

Go to this Web page to learn more about the IBEW apprentice program: http://www.ibew332.org/uniontraining.htm

All three programs require you to have a drivers license, to have high school diploma or GED and to have completed some high school math.  The exact requirements differ slightly, depending on the particular apprenticeship you want.  Everything is explained on the Web site.

You may also be able to get a jump start on the apprenticeship program  through vocational training in high school  Ask the guidance counselor at your current school whether there is a vocational program in high school that will teach you electrical work while you get your diploma.  That can really shorten the time between when you get out of high school and the time you start to earn a good income.

I wish you very good luck, and I hope this helps.

  2. Try your local union, link site is National Joint Apprenticeship and Training Committee.  Good luck to you..
