  1. lan Chile have an special to Colombia. Check on tuesday. Good luck paisa!

  2. I usually find the best fare from the airline website it self; but here are a few I use:  Lowestfares.com,  orbitz.com, expedia.com, cheapair.com.  Also call a travel agent that specialises in Latin America travel. Good luck.

P.S. some of the larger airlines don't fly into Medellin (Continental Airlines for example) but will fly into Bogota or Panama City for transfer to another airline.

  3. I ran a search for Feb 13 thru March 13, Chicago O'Hare to Medellin, on Priceline.com.

Three airlines had round trip fares of USD$571: United, Avianca, and American.

Sometimes you can get a better deal by using the airline website directly, but usually Priceline is just as good or better.

Make sure you have a current US passport. Also, when you get your ticket, find out from the airline if you need a tourist visa. I seem to remember that you get that when you land in Colombia, but it has been 8 months or so.

Most places in Colombia take both MasterCard and Visa, but not all - so I suggest you take one of each credit card. also, there are plenty of ATMs there [they call them ATH - same thing] - and that is the best way to get money while you are there and the best exchange rate too.

The Lonely Planet guide to Colombia is a great help - by all means get a copy and take it with you.

Enjoy your trip. I lived there for three months in 2006 [we adopted a Colombian older orphan] and would go back tomorrow if I could.
