Megatrain.com and megabus.com do really cheap prices.

If you book far enough in advance you can even get the bus for £1!!! It's also really easy to book.

If you call and ask for a saver ticket more than a week in advance then they should be able to sell you a cheap ticket, I've lost track of what companies do which routes though so you'd have to find that out from the national rail enquiries website.

I found my train ticket from SearchAllDiscounts.com, and saved a lot of money.  Maybe you can try it with "cheap train tickets to london".

www.thetrainline.com - they offer value advance fairs and different ways of buying tickets (e.g. two singles) which may be cheaper. just have a rummage round and i'm sure you'll find something!
