  1. u can make ur own falafel is common here

  2. There are a number of Middle Eastern places in Philly where you can get falafel and shawarma; most of them are in West Philly, but there are a few in Center City & Old City as well.

    In West Philly, check out:

    Saad’s Halal Restaurant

    4500 Walnut Street

    215-222-7223‎

This is not a great area, and a bit out of the way, but I hear they have good take-out:

    Sanna's

    2301 Grays Ferry Ave

    215-731-1911

If you want something more in Center City, this place is near Jefferson Hospital; it's also glatt kosher:

    Maccabeam Restaurant

    128 S. 12th St

    215-922-5922‎

I've heard people say this has the most authentic Israeli shawarma in Philly; located near Old City/Society Hill:

    Mama's Grill‎

    630 South St

    215-922-0300

    http://www.mamasgrill.net‎

  3. Check out this place:

    Bitar's -

    (215) 755-1121        - 947 Federal St, Philadelphia, PA

It's been around for awhile - good food!

  4. There is a very good place called "Falafel King" near the corner of 10th and Gambell in Anchorage.  It is a bit out of your way, but they have really good schwarma.

  5. Maccabeam Restaurant

    128 S 12th St

    Philadelphia, PA 19107-4936

    Phone: (215) 922-5922

Announced on the restaurant window alongside the entrance the food is described as "glatt kosher" which might be translated as perfectly proper--no mixing of meat and milk dishes. In fact, Maccabeam's menu offers no diary products at all. The emphasis is on simple, spicy and inexpensive Middle Eastern vegetarian dishes such as falafel, hummus, baba ghanoush and shakshuka (scrambled egg mixed with tomatoes, parsley, cardamom and hot sauce). There are also tasty beef and chicken shish kebobs, shawarma-even a Philly steak sandwich. Extra hungry? Order a side of crispy latkes or tasty fries.
