  1. Recent post WW1 records are still with the Ministry of Defence.  Eventually they will be transferred to the National Archives in Kew.  In the meantime, if you want a copy of his service record then you have to write to the MOD at some mailbox address at Kentigern House in Glasgow with a fee of about £35 (and proof of kinship as next of kin plus copy of his death certificate) and they will send you a copy in the post.  Genealogists enquiries always get pushed to the back of the queue in favour of ex-servicemen and veterans who need their info for pension purposes etc, so waiting times can stretch into several months.

Most of the details you'll need are here:

    good luck

  3. Your first point of contact should be the National Archives, just follow the link below, then if you are his next of kin you could contact the Ministry of Defence direct, Next of kin would be surviving spouse or eldest surviving child or eldest surviving Grand Child.  Then you could try contacting the Regiment Direct.

    Hope this helps

    Good luck and good hunting.

You can get a free trial for like 2 weeks or 30 days, thats enough time to find any documents on him. I found a bunch of stuff during my trial. Just make sure you save copies to your computer, or else you will lose access to them if you dont pay after the trial expires.

  5. try genes reunited

  6. The National Archives on the web
