  1. You could get an Advance Purchase ticket. These need to bought in advance, the seat is reserved, and you have to travel at that time but you choose which time you want to travel. They are cheaper than the normal priced tickets.

Mega Train are the cheapest but are very restrictive on when you can travel.

  2. You need to get an advance ticket they go on sale a month or so before you travel there are cheap fares available

You can get a standard advance single for £8 each way if you book in advance but get there fast they sell very fast the best fare I can see for say the 6th sept is £60.10 saver single so go to www.virgintrains.com and book now for the date you want before the cheap tickets sell out.

  3. mega train! online, you can go inter city for a £1 in some cases

i've had a look for you, seems they only do a direct bus service to london, but it's only £3.50

  4. I would recommend Virgin online because at least you know they are reliable but id also say think about a rail card because they make travelling so much cheaper

  5. You could go to your local station and ask the ticket clerk there, if you go weeks in advance (preferably 6 weeks for the real cheap tickets) they will give you times, travel details and prices plus options on which station you need to get to, etc, etc. Also that way there is no surcharge, you dont have to rely on the post to get you the ticket and you have a face to face encounter with direct input.

Otherwise its onto some of the internet sites I am afraid, those tickets are non interchangeable so make sure you know what day time you need to travel and pay for the service.

    Good Luck
