Where can i get slate pencils and slate to write on?????

i would like to buy some slate and slate pencils for my brownies as we are doing a project on school children from 100 years ago.

Do you live anywhere near wales. The welsh museium of life sell them there. They are  good prices to.

While slate pencils were used in the early days, they were gradually replaced by soft chalk which you can buy in most stationery shops or toy stores, real slate pencils would be difficult to find and very expensive.

The slates used were usually encased in a wooden frame, but this again will add to your cost.

You will be able to get slates for next to nothing from your local roofer, who spends a lot of his time replacing old roofing slates with new roof tiles.
