I have finally made my way down college lane and my family is going through a bit of a rough spot. I mean, they could barely pay for me to go to Santa Clara University, and I don't need any more stress radiating off of them...so if you can...PLEASE GIVE ME MORE TIPS!!!

  1. IKEA

  2. I belong to a couple Yahoo groups called Freecycle. You can look up Yahoo groups and look for the ones that are close to  your city. Everything offered in these groups is free. You must join the group by first offering a free item yourself but there are so many things people offer it is amazing what you will find. I have a friend who's daughter was going to college and she posted an ad as a "wanted" things for a dorm room. She received soo many nice things. Popcorn popper, mini fridge, wall decor, mirrors, beanbag chair, mini-microwave etc.

You can also look on Craigslist under there free section. Or post an ad under Items wanted. You can do a search to buy things at a very reasonable price.

You can go to garage sales, rummage sales and thrift stores.

If you still need things, try bidding for them on ebay.or buying them on Amazon and overstock.com.

If there are outlet malls try there.

I love IKEA and other stores like Walmart and the dollar stores. If you have a little more cash, try Bed Bath and Beyond or Linens and things.

    Best of luck.

  3. Oh I love that campus! Try out Target, Walmart, or Ikea. Have you looked on Craig's List under free?

I Googled "decorating dorm rooms on a shoe string budget" and these are some of the results I got for you.

  4. TARGET

    WALMART

    OR

    SHOP

    ONLINE

    EBAYYY

  5. Bed bath and beyond. My sister got a very stylish "kit" that included bed comforter, bed skirt, pillows and a rug in orange and bright pink. Then she got white sheets to balnce out all the color. They also sell some nessesities like colorful shower kits, laundry holders etc.

  6. Definately Target...  if nothing else just for accent pieces and ideas!  If you wait another week everything will be on clearance!  And by all means, do not rule out thrift shops and garage sales!

There are a LOT of people going through the same "rough spot" so now is the time to see just how creative you can be!  It is so much fun, just a matter of how you look at it!

My friends are crazy jealous, I have a very cute house, and money in the bank... because i shop at the thrift stores and garage sales.  You will be suprised what you can find!  And who knows what you can do with all the money you save...

    Have fun!!!

  7. Congratulations!

Ikea has very reasonably priced accessories and quite a good variety of colours.  What all do you need?  Bed linen, posters, etc.?  I'd start there.
