In the UK you need to get approval from the Financial Services Authority either to act as an insurance intermediary or as an insurance provider.

I you are thinking about offering your own policies, I have two words of advice.

Forget it.

1) You won't get authorisation

2) Insurance companies lose money underwriting motor insurance.

most states require 40 hrs of class time and then you take the state exam

What state do you live in?

You would have to go to the state insurance licensing agency?  Take a class and take the exam.
