  1. Your local public library probably has very good reference books in this area. The Standard Catalog of World Coins and the Standard Catalog of World Paper Money (both by Krause Publications) are a good place to start. Bear in mind that the prices listed will be dealers sell prices, and buy prices will be lower. Checking sell prices on eBay will also give you a realistic idea of what to expect.

  2. You can sell them on eBay as that would hold the biggest market of buyers for them.  You can sell them piecemeal, if they are 100 years old or older, or in one bundle, especially if they are less than 100 years old.  Selling to a local coin shop would yield the lowest return because they will offer somewhat less than what they want to sell it for.  Ebay's prices will range from what the dealer will buy them for and what he will sell them for.  Starting with a low bid will get more people caught up in bidding on them and get them sold in a week.  Then you can still put in a reserve price of your minimum selling price.  Starting with a high bid, such as what the dealer might sell it for, will take months of relisting before you finally sell it.
