  1. Where are you going? Traveler's checks are no longer widely accepted here in Europe. Maverick is correct - you're better off using a credit card or an ATM card that's on an international circuit such as Cirrus.

  2. check out your local credit union.

  3. Yep thats right , traveler check a pain ......

Years agoooooo I used them ....oh lordy I thought I

would never stop filling it out .lol

I have AAA , so that means I can get them .shoot I didnt

realize that until I read another message ....

Credit Unions are the only other place ....

It's either AAA or CRedit Union .......you've to open up

    accts.

  4. rather than carrying much in travelers checks,I suggest that you use your credit card.

For free travelers checks, try AAA if you are a member, or your local bank, if you have several accouns there.

  5. Your bank, if you have a large enough relationship (ie not  your basic "free banking" account).  With gas prices what they are, if you drive more than a couple of miles farther than your bank, you'll end up paying more in gas anyway.

  6. Forget the traveler's check and use your ATM. The TC's are a hassle to get cashed in a foreign country and ATM's are on every corner.  If you are in a foreign country... they change the currency for you automatically. It'ss the greatest. I used my ATM all throughout Europe.

However, if you really want TC's go to AAA... they are fee-free for members. AAA also has these cool things called "TipPaks" which are small amounts of foreign currency, so you have tip money in your pocket when you land. Bellboys don't take ATM cards. You can get the TipPaks in all kind of currency.... and the exchange rate is better here than in the country of origin.

  7. If you're a member - AAA.

I have found travelers' checks are a pain in the keester.  I always start out great recording everything then I become lax.

My bank offers reimbursement for ATM charges of up to $25 a month.  I find this is a safer and more convenient way of traveling.  I don't have to carry $2000-3000.

It's much easier to budget my LV money by using the ATM.

  8. Do you belong to a Credit Union?  I've never paid a fee for travelers checks.
